This is a module-type sofa bench
made of Corian, inspired by the gentle undulating hills of
nature. Constructed with 12.5mm thick Corian sheets in a maximum
width, each module is a 70cm x 70cm square, allowing for free
combinations in various directions to create different sofa
bench landscapes within a space. The creation of this art piece demands extremely high precision. The black monochrome modules are composed of thermo-bent molding panels, while the black-and-white modules are crafted by milling from laminated blocks of Corian sheets. Particularly challenging is the milling process from the laminated blocks for the two-color modules, where care must be taken to prevent thin layers from separating while ensuring that the pattern is carved out based solely on the thickness of the adhesive. This requires a combination of manual work and precise cutting machine techniques. Notably, a Japanese company was selected from among DuPont Corian processing companies worldwide for its high precision standards. Thus, a beautifully crafted art piece, proudly labeled "Made in Japan," has been brought to life. 大自然の緩やかに波打つ大地の丘陵の中に佇むことをイメージした、コーリアン製のモジュール式ソファベンチです。12.5mm厚のコーリアンのシートの最大幅で制作した70cm x 70cmの正方形モジュールでできており、各辺が同じ形状なので自由な方向に組み合わせができ、様々なソファベンチの地形を空間に表現できます。非常に高い制作の精度が問われるアート作品で、黒い単色のモジュールは熱曲げ成型のパネル構成、白黒２色のモジュールは、コーリアンシートを積層したブロックから削り出して作られています。特に、２色モジュールの積層ブロックからの削り出しは、隆起形状の緩やか角度の部分は薄く削られる層が剥離しないようにしながら、接着剤の厚みだけで削り出される模様が違ってくるので、手作業と切削機による高い精度の制作技術が必要です。世界中のデュポン・コーリアン制作加工会社の中からその制度の高さで日本の会社が選ばれ、メイドインジャパンの美しいアート作品が生まれました。 Product name: "OPS_sofa" Designer :Setsu & Shinobu ITO Manufacture: DuPont Corian Material: Corian Dimensions: W.70 x D.70 x H.33 (cm) Design work year: 2006 |
